Ben P. Gulledge Papers, 1917-1919

Private Ben P. Gulledge served in Company I of the 118th Infantry of the American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I. The collection contains 18 letters from Gulledge to his girlfriend Minnie Jones of Wadesboro, N.C. Topics include conditions at Camp Sevier in Greenville, S.C., where Gulledge was stationed prior to his company's deployment to France; Gulledge's wounding on the battlefield in France; and Gulledge's recuperation at a hospital in England. Also included are a letter to Jones from a Kentucky-based soldier and two documents relating to the return of the remains of Private Charles Peter Jones of Wadesboro, N.C., possibly the brother of Minnie Jones.
